Beautiful Curls Review
Written by Samara on September 10, 2010Today I am reviewing a new natural hair product line called Beautiful Curls by Alaffia. I saw this line in Wholefoods and decided to give it a try. From what I read on the Beautiful Curls website (www.beautifulcurls.net), there are 3 different types of product categories in the line. There is a Kinky-Curly line, Straight-Wavy line, and Babies line. I purchased the Kinky-Curly line because my hair is just that, Kinky-Curly.
The products that I purchased was the Beautiful Curls Curl Activating Shampoo,Curl Activating Leave-in Conditioner, Curl Reviving Hair Tonic(for all hair types), and the Curl Enchancing Cream. After trying the product line I decided to return the shampoo, conditioner and the hair tonic because the pH of those products were too alkaline and my hair was also dried out. Note: Even though I like the shampoo, after testing the pH I decided to return it because the pH was a 7.0-7.5!
Below is a video series of myself using the products and my results:

Thanks for the review. I know not to buy that line. But the line I recently bought( waiting for my products to come from UPS)is Carols Daughter. So many people have been raving about it and from reading what you said products should not contain, Carols Daughters products seem to pass the test on that. I also love how you research all these complex names that I see on product ingredients but never knew what that meant until now.
Thanks so much for your honest review of these products. I did see them at whole foods today and thought I would search for a review before buying. The guy at the Whole foods did confirm I could return product that didn’t work for me yay! Also I wouldn’t have thought to check the ph of the products – so I learned something new. Thanks a lot, I’ll be looking for more info about ph balance on youtube.
Hi..I thought that a ph of 7-7.5 was considered ‘neutral’.
It is neutal, but our hair is acidic so our hair would benefit more from having something like aloe vera(4.0) put into it than just plain water (pH 7.0)
Hi Samara,
I’m new to your channel and your blog. I just purchased the leave-in conditioner from the beautiful curls line a few weeks ago. I noticed right away that the product didn’t leave my hair feeling moisturized, in fact it felt really dry as if I hadn’t put anything on it. I found this really odd. I will admit that I didn’t know much about the importance of pH before I started watching kimmaytubes videos. I was interested in buying all of the pH strips but then somewhere my conviction broke and I just started using natural products to work with my hair.
Before I used the stuff from Beautiful Kurls I was using the karkady mist from Qhemet Biologics and a leave in conditioner from Keys. I was really satisfied with both of these products until I ran out. I was in my local health food store looking for the karkady spritz (which is out of stock because the formula is being changed, hopefully for the better) when I saw the Alaffia products with its talk of fair tradiness and donating to africa it seemed almost a sin to get anything else.
But products that are pH balanced trump ones that smack of fairtradiness/charity-to-africa I guess.
Hi. Can you tell me what’s the normal PH our products should have? Are curly hair’s PH differ from straight hair? Really got curious bout the PH thing.
No pH is the same no matter what texture of hair. The pH should be no more than a 5 and now lower than a 4. The pH of all hair is about a 4-4.5
Thanks for your review! I was wondering if I was the only one who did not have such a fruitful experience. I tried the leave in conditioner and curl activator gel last night. I was not satisfied at all as my hair felt extremely dry and hard to style the next day. I will be returning these products promptly and return to using oyin handmade products
I made a video about this product after using it for a few days. I will post ASAP. I was not happy either with the results after a few days because it did indeed dry out my hair
