Botanical Spirits Magic Curls Puree Review

Written by Samara on April 12, 2010

The Botanical Spirits Magic Curls Puree is supposed to be a curl definer. There are 3 different strengths offered in the line which are mild, regular and extra strength. Extra Strength is supposed to be for type 4-5 type hair. So I decided to give it a go to see if it would define my tightly coiled curls and kinks. I first cleansed my hair with the Botanical Spirits Sugarcane shampoo. I then did a second treatment with the Botanical Spirits Peppermint Mud Hair Softening Mask. I rinsed out the mask and applied the Botanical Spirits Sugarcane Clarifying Conditioner for 5 minutes and rinsed again.  After I squeezed out the excess water, I applied the Botanical Spirits Soft Curls Creme and let it penetrate my hair for about 5-10 minutes. I then applied the Botanical Spirits Magic Curls Puree section by section from root to tip.

My hair was soft after a few hours with a fluffy look, but the curls weren’t defined to my standards at all. The following day my hair was hard and even after spritzing my hair with plain water and the Botanical Spirits Hydrating Curls Spritzer, my hair still remained hard. I soon discovered yellowish-white chunks of product in my hair where my hair was the hardest. My hair was “cemented’ together in multiple areas and I had no curl definition, but I was left with frizzy, hard, nasty looking hair. I was not happy with my results at all.

Here’s the video series of myself applying the Magic Curls Puree, and my results after the second mud relaxer treatment:
