I heard about this so-called natural relaxer and I even thought about trying it, but as always I did my research first and discovered that this product would end up being a nightmare for someone wanting long hair.

The sad thing is when you do a search on “Grow Black Hair” the Naturalaxer site comes up under one of it’s many names: growblackhair.com, growyourownhair.com, etc. The site contains products such as the Naturalaxer and the other African Wonders hair products. This site doesn’t really help black women grow their hair, but it sells hair products and one of the main products it sells will make you lose your hair: the Naturalaxer. Basically this is a site promoting the African Wonders hair products.

The Naturalaxer according to several reviews I have read does nothing but dry the hair out. You start off applying this product to all of your new growth and you continue to reapply this product to your new growth every 6 weeks along with the previous new grow you’ve already applied it too. You basically apply this product on to all your hair over and over again. In time it dries your hair out more and more until it eventually ends up breaking off!

A word of advice: DO NOT use the Naturalaxer if you want to keep your hair on your head. Our hair is already dry and we don’t need any help from some bogus hair product.

The only good relaxer that I know of which has been raved about and even mentioned on the Long Hair Forums is the Phytorelaxer(which I actually use) and Affirm. The Naturalaxer was also reviewed on this site and was given a bad review from women who’ve used it. This relaxer was compared to the Copa product along with other, in which we all know Copa was sued because of their hair loss causing products.

The Ultra Black Hair Lotion Creme Moisturizer is especially good to use immediately after conditioning your hair with a protein conditioner to help soften and moisturize it because protein dries the hair out, this moisturizer will restore the moisture balance in your hair.  I use the moisturizer every morning and sometimes I use a little hair oil for an extra sheen.

The UBH hair lotion creme is light weight and it has no odor at all. You should not apply it to your scalp, but rather your hair paying close attention to the ends. It doesn’t give much of a shine though so you should invest in a light hair oil such as the Strawberry or Cherry oil made by Perfect Results for that glossy, shiny effect. Other than that this is a great moisturizer because it doesn’t contain any mineral oil, petroleum or protein. Instead it contains the right amount of oil, water, and humercants that black hair needs to prevent breakage and maintain a good moisture balance.

The only drawback that I find with this product is you can only order it online at ubhpublications.com and it is rather expensive ($14.00 for a 16oz bottle). With that in mind if you are serious about growing your hair you’d invest in this product regardless of the price. Jjust skip your weekly trips to the beauty salon and limit them to one trip every 6-8 weeks for a touch-up and special occasions and the $35-$45 dollars you spend can be put back for a 4-6 month supply of UBH hair lotion to add length and grow your hair long, strong, and beautiful.

One thing I will say is this relaxer does not get the hair as straight as other relaxers. Your hair will still contain some texture to it so if you are looking for that “bone straight” look, don’t expect to get it by using the Phyto Relaxer. You will have to invest in a ceramic flat iron to get that silky straight look which you should be using anyways to prevent breakage between touch-ups when your new growth comes in!

The Phyto Relaxer actually cost $60, but it contains one whole relaxer for virgin hair or 2 touchups. So you’re actually paying $30 for a relaxer if you purchased it for a touchup. I’ve also been able to purchase this relaxer from Sephora (sephora.com) and the hairboutique.com (offers free shipping).

What I can say about the Phyto Relaxer is if buying a $60 relaxer ever 6-8 weeks fits in your budget then go for it! This is a really good relaxer that doesn’t cause as much damage as other relaxers do and it is worth the money. The only thing I do not care for is the Milky Reconstructor that the relaxer comes with. It tells you to leave it on for 5 minutes which isn’t enough time to properly condition the hair. I recommend conditioning with this product for a total of 15 minutes under a dome dryer. Next completely rinse the hair out and condition again for another 15 minutes with the Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayonnaise or the UBH Deep Conditioner.

I don’t know how much I can stress it to women to avoid using a brush no matter what in African American hair. It rips the hair out! Brushing the hair does more harm than good. If you need to stimulate your scalp try a dry finger massage or use a conditioner with a scalp stimulant in it such as menthol, tea tree oil, or peppermint oil. If you decide to use the Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayonnaise, then try adding a few drops of tea-tree oil or peppermint oil to the conditioner before applying it to your head to act as a stimulant while you condition.

Please don’t ruin your daughter’s hair by using hair brushes. It’s really a shame when you read these misleading articles in black owned magazines telling millions of women to brush their daughters hair. Every since I’ve seen that article in the Essence magazine I’ve decided to start reading articles regarding black hair care and reviewing them monthly.

Every style looks better with trimmed ends. Before you rock a straight or even curly look get that quarter inch health cut from your stylist. – Essence

I don’t know how much I can stress it but, clipping the ends will not make your hair healthier or make your hair grow for that matter. If you are trying to gain length taking this approach will get you no where. Clipping the ends are for appearance purposes only. It will only make your hair look neat, but it won’t prevent breakage, split ends, or improve the hairs overall health., however, a deep conditioning treatment will.

Essence also again suggests using a brush in the hair in 2 different occasions in this article which I am also against because it has been proven that brushing the hair does more harm than good. It actually rips the hair out and causes major damage. If you are trying to gain length opt out of using a brush in your hair ladies!

Another tip from Essence was to use leave in conditioners. Conditioners or any sort of hair product containing protein should always be rinsed out, instead a deep conditioning treatment should be used and rinsed out completely. Leave in conditoners are a waste of money.

I did slightly agree with Essence when they did suggest getting a hot oil treatment and a deep condition every 2 weeks, but you should deep condition your hair every time you wash it rather it’s once a week or every 3 days. Every 2 weeks are not enough times to condition or wash. Condition every time for beautiful long hair!
