YES! My hair has been growing like weeds since summer began. I attribute that to a change in my hair care regimen, my diet and far less heat appliance usage. In the spirit of Summer and the dryness that it brings, I’ve been really keeping my hair moisturized and wrapped at night.

My haircare secrets are: This awsome website!! Thanks Samara, you’re the best! 2. My little bottle of water and glycerine, a satin scarf at night and washing every 3-5 days due to my workout schedule and finally, Hairfinity vitamins!!!! These vitamins REALLY work!!

Because you drink more water in the summer and so your body and your scalp are more hydrated… hair loves moisture and water!

That is a good point the 2 of you have made. In the Summer we do take in more fluids. Maybe if we adapt this practice in the cooler months which are drying as well, our hair may grow just as fast. This is something I plan on trying this coming winter!

    Hi!
I’m 12 years old and I wanted to start going natural. I’ve been getting perms since I was 6 and my hair is currently past my shoulder. I’d like to know if there is a way to go natural without cutting off all my hair?

    Thanks for your help! :D

You can grow out your newgrowth to a length that you are comfortable with before cutting it off. Try styles like wet sets, straw sets, cornrows, braids, and twists. DO NOT use heat on your newgrowth what so ever for this can damage you natural curl pattern permenantly and remember to deep condition every week. Goodluck!

i am transitioning from natural to curly. I am planning not to use the hair solon during this process because i want to trust my hair to someone who cares about it as much as i do. I was wondering if plaiting my hair in large plaits is a good enough protective style. I am thirteen and i just found out how to braid hair and i am not nearly good enough to do it myself, but my mom used to do my Hair a long tome ago and thats all she really remembers how to do.
Sorry for the long post though, thanx

Yes plaits are just fine, sometimes I use them as a protective style. My son whom has natural hair wears them from time to time as well when I don’t feel like cornrowing his hair

First, the products you are using are not good for your hair. You must use a sulfate free shampoo such as Giovanni 50:50 Clarifying Shampoo, Kinky-Curly Come Clean Shampoo, or Curls Curlicious Shampoo just to name a few. You must also use a moisturizer daily that is free of mineral oil, silicones, and petroleum. Here are a few suggestions: Donna Marie Super Butter Cream, Curls Curl Milkshake, SheaMoisture Curl Enchancing Smoothie. There’s a ton out there, you just have to experiment with which ones will work best for your hair. Hope this helps!

  10. Tressa, what have you done to your hair? Did it happened unexpectedly?

I believe ever since I let my friend relaxed my hair last July, it has been breakage and shedding and yes it was unexpected…Now, I will be going to the shop to have a professional to put a relaxer into my hair and hope it doesn’t break after I did the Agologee protein treatment and trim ends. Pray for me!!

    Hey All,

I realized that over the past few months (the winter months especially) that my scalp has a tendancy to become very dry, cracked and the follicles become enlarged due to excessive oils or conditioners. I’ve also experienced substantial hair loss (thinning on the top and sides). I’ve since stripped these products out of my hair and my regimen and have started using my protective styles more often. After doing my research, I realized that what was going on was not related to products at all, but hormones. It’s called androgenic alopeicia. The over production of DHT due to a hormonal imbalance.

So, I’m going to see my doctor on the 1st of Feb and see where I can get on this matter. I know there are many women out there dealing with this issue. I would like to be of any assistance with answers. So as I get them, you will too. Thanks Samara for this forum that allows us to not only learn how to care for our hair, but how to care for ourselves as a whole.

    I’ll keep you all posted!
