Giovanni Smooth As Silk Deeper Moisture Conditioner
Written by Samara on December 21, 2009
I purchased the Smooth as Silk Deeper Moisture Conditioner by Giovanni from Walmart for $5.92, which is a steal compared to the regular priced $7.92. I read the ingredients which were all natural and I figured that this product may be just as good as my CURLS Coconut Sublime Conditioner (which I’m in love with). Here are the ingredients for the Giovanni Smooth as Silk Deeper Moisture Conditioner:
Aqua (Purified Water) with *Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, *Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Valencia Orange) Extract, *Mangifera Indica (Mango) Extract, *Cymbopogon Schoeanthus (Lemongrass) Extract, *Ginkgo Biloba Extract, *Echinacea Angustifolia Extract, *Salix Alba (Willow Bark), *Macrocystis Pyrifera (Sea Kelp) Extract, *Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Leaf Extract, *Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Extract, *Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Extract, *Glycine Soja (Soybean) Extract, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Centrimonium Bromide, Butylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fragrance with Essential Oils
I tried the Giovanni Smooth as Silk conditioner as a cowash and did not care for it. It gave me alot of slip while the conditioner was in my hair, but as soon as I rinsed it out, my hair wasn’t as moisturized as when I use the Curls Coconut Sublime conditioner. I decided to try this product again later in the month to see if maybe it was just me because the ingredients are all natural. I then tried it again as a deep conditioner, saturating my hair with it and leaving it in for about 45 minutes. When I rinsed it out, my hair was a little softer than last time, but it still wasn’t to my satisfaction. I believe the best conditioners for our hair are the ones that detangle, moisturize, and strengthen. My hair just didn’t feel more moisturized than before I used this conditioner. My hair actually felt softer before I tried this product.
After looking over the ingredients once again, I think the problem lies in the fact that the Giovanni Smooth as Silk Conditioner contains Orange Extract, Sea Kelp Extract, and Willow Bark which have cleansing effects. These same ingredients are contained in Kinky-Curly’s Come Clean Shampoo. My hair actually felt like it feels after I shampoo my hair with a sulfate free cleanser, rather than after conditioning it when I use the Giovanni Conditioner.
In conclusion, the Giovanni Smooth as Silk Deeper Moisture Conditioner is a good deep conditioner that will imply some moisture as well as strengthen your strands for those that are looking for that in a product, however, I will continue to use this product until it’s used all up, but I don’t think I will be purchasing it again.

Thanks for your review Samara. Where do you get the CURLS Coconut Sublime Conditioner?? And what Walmart did you find Giovanni??
You should be able to find Giovanni products in any Walmart. The Curls products are found on Curls.biz.
I so badly want to wash my hair with this product.
