Hair Products Don’t Make Your Hair Grow
Written by Samara on April 29, 2008I don’t know how much I can stress the fact that all the hair products in stores that claim to make your hair grow or grow faster will not and will never make your hair grow. Your hair is already growing and your hair doesn’t need any help in the growing department. What our hair needs help in is the breakage department.
We need to do what is needed to reduce and prevent hair breakage to achieve length. Are these products that claim “GUARANTEED” hair growth claim to stop breakage? No they don’t! They claim to promote hair growth. There is no pill or hair grease or oil that will make your hair grow long. Hair grease is usually made up of 90% petroleum and mineral oil which is actually a moisture inhibitor and clogs hair follicles. Those greases you are placing on your scalp is what is keeping your hair dry and causing breakage. This can also stunt the hair growth due to the fact that they clog the pores.
Synthetic ingredients (like grease) tend to lay on the surface and clog your pores and don’t contain ingredients that improve the integrity of your hair and skin.
– Says Jane Carter from Palour Magazine.
As I check my site statistics every month I take a look at he key phrases women use to find my site and I’ve seen women using key phrases like “Products to make black hair grow”. We as black women are still trying to find a miracle product to make our hair grow, but this product will never appear.
Our hair grows at the same rate as every other race which is about 1/2 inch a month. The only problem we have is that because our hair is the driest hair type it tends to break! To correct this problem we need to prevent breakage by limiting the use of heated appliances in our hair, eliminating all blow dryers and stove (Marcel ovens) heated appliances from our hair care routine, applying a mineral oil/petroleum free water based moisturizer daily, and deep conditioning the hair weekly.
These are the key steps to achieving length. There is no miracle hair oil, grease, cream, or pill.

Hi
Thanks so much for this information. It is greatly needed. i have a question for you. I have natural hair. What are your thoughts on clipping the ends for persons with natural hair
I recommend the same treatment as to relaxed hair. Do not clip your ends! Even if it is natural there is no reason for you to have to clip your ends. Clipping the ends doen’t make the hair grow nor does it prevent it from breaking.
Hi
You said no grease. So what do you recommend for a person with dry scalp?
How often should you wash your hair?
Can I moisturise my hair and use a hand held blow dryer to dry my hair if I don’t have a stationary one and re-aply the moisturiser?
Using a hand held blow dryer is strictly out of the question because they are very damaging and will aid in the dry scalp problem. Instead allow your hair to air dry. You should wash your hair every 3-7 days. Hair oil or grease should never be applied to the scalp. The scalp produces an efficient amount of sebum to moisturize the scalp. Washing your hair properly and conditioning it will fix the dry scalp problem unless their is an underlying medical cause for dryness which in that case you should see your doctor.
I noticed that you’ve repeatedly said NOTHING ON THE SCALP…Just wondering what your thoughts are on Dr. Miracle’s products-specifically the Stimulating gro oil, and the temple and nape gro balm. I use both of these, and I try to use only a little bit of both on my scal pbecause I know our scalp already has oil. The temple and nape balm seems to have been working for me. I can’t say as much for the stimulating gro oil, I mean I think it’s doing a little something, but I’m not sure. I noticed you recommended the organic root stimulator fertilizing hair balm for thinning hair in another blog. Is this what you would recommend I use in place of the dr. miracle’s stimulating gro oil. My mom’s hair is also very thin in the front/balding, would you recommend this product for her as well?
The hair oil is not making your hair grow and I don’t recommend Dr. Miracles products. Most of it is mineral oil and petroleum anyway(like most hair products for African Americans) which are ingredients that will eventually clog your pores and stunt your hair growth. The ORS fertilizing hair serum and balm is only recommending for people that are balding such as you mom’s case.
