Hair Rules Kinky Curling Cream Review

Written by Samara on October 14, 2009

Hair Rules Kinky Curling CreamToday I am reviewing the Kinky Curling Cream by the Hair Rules line. Please do not get this product confused with the Kinky-Curly Curling Custard by Kinky-Curly for they are nothing alike. With that said let’s move on.

When I first took a look at their product before and after photos and noticed the models hair “transformations” I was amazed that their hair, (especially the type 4 sista) could change from one texture to another from just a mere product. How it was possible that a woman with 4b hair can become a 3c from just a mere product without chemicals was amazing. – To the naive natural of course! There is no way a woman with 4b hair can have bouncy 3c curls without adding chemicals to loosen her curl pattern. It was clear that the model their using has a texturizer/silkener. This false advertisement was enough to turn me off the product, but then I read the ingredients for the Kinky-Curling Cream:

water, mineral oil, C13-16 isoparaffin, butylene glycol, glycerin, C18-21 alkane, carbomer, triethanolamine, hydrolyzed wheat protein, crambe abyssinica seed oil, honey, hedychium coronarium,(awaphui) root extract, cymbopogon schoenanthus (lemongrass) extract, humulus lupulus(hops) extract, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, coix lacryma- jobi seed extract, PPG-26-buteth-26, dimethicone, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, fragrance, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, DMDM hydantoin, disodium EDTA, iodopropynyl butylcarbamate

Wow, the second ingredient is that nasty little mineral oil, followed by isoparaffin(beeswax), and let’s not forget all the ingredients that we can’t pronounce (Chemicals!). Last, but not least the ever so asking for buildup dimethicone! It’s amazing how when I look at the products marketed to the looser curl pattern women their products don’t contain mineral oil. This product is just a clone of all the other so-called African American hair products marketed to women with kinky hair – Laced with cheap oils and waxes! Personally, I would not shed $20 for some fixed up hair grease! Whom ever came up with this line needs to do their research first before introducing products made for natural hair, because it is made with all the ingredients African American women need to avoid!

My advice, stop looking for products to change your hair texture and accept your texture as it is. Once you truly accept your natural texture you won’t go wasting your money on products like these that offer empty promises and the potential to affect the health of your natural hair. These products are made to keep our hair in bondage. Remember – Kinky hair is beautiful!
