Naturalaxer Review – Don’t do it!
Written by Samara on April 8, 2008
Note: Please do not get the Naturalaxer and the Natural-laxer confused, they are not the same thing. I am referring to the Naturaxer from growyourownhair.com in this article.
I heard about this so-called natural relaxer and I even thought about trying it, but as always I did my research first and discovered that this product would end up being a nightmare for someone wanting long hair.
The sad thing is when you do a search on “Grow Black Hair” the Naturalaxer site comes up under one of it’s many names: growblackhair.com, growyourownhair.com, etc. The site contains products such as the Naturalaxer and the other African Wonders hair products. This site doesn’t really help black women grow their hair, but it sells hair products and one of the main products it sells will make you lose your hair: the Naturalaxer. Basically this is a site promoting the African Wonders hair products.
The Naturalaxer according to several reviews I have read does nothing but dry the hair out. You start off applying this product to all of your new growth and you continue to reapply this product to your new growth every 6 weeks along with the previous new grow you’ve already applied it too. You basically apply this product on to all your hair over and over again. In time it dries your hair out more and more until it eventually ends up breaking off!
A word of advice: DO NOT use the Naturalaxer if you want to keep your hair on your head. Our hair is already dry and we don’t need any help from some bogus hair product.
Please see the reviews:

The only good relaxer that I know of which has been raved about and even mentioned on the Long Hair Forums is the Phytorelaxer(which I actually use) and Affirm. The Naturalaxer was also reviewed on this site and was given a bad review from women who’ve used it. This relaxer was compared to the Copa product along with other, in which we all know Copa was sued because of their hair loss causing products.

1[ Reply to this comment ]I tried naturalaxer for about 6 months. It didn’t dry my hair out because I wet my hair every 2 days, use moisturizer often and condition every 2 to 3 days. But it certainly was a disappoinment. The naturalaxer didn’t straighten my roots enough. I had an afro beneath relaxed hair and it was very difficult to make my hair look nice or styled. I decided to go back to chemical relaxers. If you try Naturalaxer, just be sure to pour water on your hair daily (use a container and do this in the shower), let it air dry, apply UBH moisturizer daily, and condition every other day (the length only never never the scalp) with Aphogee 2 Minute Keratin Reconstuctor.

4[ Reply to this comment ]Out of respect, this article is not helpful at all. Naturalaxer is clay and herbs. There is no conspiracy to destroy black hair with a relaxer here. There are a plethora of women all over naturallycurly who use clay treatments similar to Naturalaxer on their hair with great results. JUst type in “clay treatments for hair” on youtube or naturallycurly. Everyone from EmpressRi to Curly Chronicles love them and they are the same as Naturalaxer. The only reason these women experienced dryness and the reviews for Naturalaxer are so bad is because they didn’t add anything to the mixture for it to condition the hair, and they expect it to completely straighten or texturize the hair like a chemical relaxer (all of which Naturalaxer clearly states it will not do). Anita Grant has a Rhassoul deep condish that’s the EXACT same thing only it contains oils, and it is considered a Holy Grail amongst many black women.
Saying “don’t use Naturalaxer” is just like saying “don’t use henna”. Henna is natural and many people experience curl loosening from it, however it can be drying if oils are not added to the mixture.
For any black women reading this: Take reviews of these kind with a grain of salt. Those women wanted Naturalaxer to STRAIGHTEN their hiar like a chemical relaxer and Naturalaxer’s FAQs clearly state that will not happen. It’s comparable to some one applying Dark N’ Lovely hair dye to their hair without reading the instuctions and getting mad when their hair doesn’t turn out right.

My question is to Samara or to anybody that wants to answer me. I want my curls to be loser than what they are,and I know that my hair is going to have to be chemically alterd just a tad bit to get the look i want.I don’t want straight hair in fact I hate the time that It takes to flat iron my hair because it is long and I have alot of it.With being a college student taking five classes this fall2009 and working part-time I want a really mild relaxer that will allow me to have wash and go hair.Do you have any suggestions because I’m getting frustrated. -

8[ Reply to this comment ]Hello Samara,
I work for African Wonders. I have been using the Naturalaxer on my own hair for about 8 months. I had braids and twisties for years and wanted more styling options without making my hair straight. The links in your article are for reviews that are from 2002-2003. There was a period when the original formulator had left the company. Customers did not like the new formulation and it was changed back. We now have a new improved formula that is wonderful. The Naturalaxer does not dry out the hair, does not smell and does not contain chemicals. Everyone loves the new formulation. My hair is soft, shiny and growing long. I wanted to email you but didn’t see an address. Please write me at info@africanwonders.com so that I can share some information with you.
We support anyone that is helping Black women grow healthy hair.
Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your article.

10[ Reply to this comment ]I use the Naturalaxer by Arican Wonders to transition years ago and LOVED it!! It allowed my 4c hair to be manageable and soft while still maintaining my texture and 4b look. When I wanted to wear a str8 look I blew it out. I moisurized my hair daily as one shld, esp w/ natural hair and never had a problem. Ever. I only found this because I’m about to order it again.

11[ Reply to this comment ]Expectations are key, and following directions is even more important. If you don’t use a product as directed, don’t blame the manufacturers for the terrible outcome.
