Simply Healthy Hair Hydrating Shine Cream Review
Written by Samara on November 10, 2009
I saw an ad about this hair product on Youtube, but couldn’t find it in Walgreens. I thought to myself based on the Youtube video; “finally a good product that is available locally.” The only issue was the lack of ingredient listing on the site so I requested a sample so I could try it out. After 4-6 weeks of waiting, I actually forgot about ordering the sample until I received it in the mail a week ago. The first thing I did was turn the little sample pack over and read the ingredients listed:
Deionized Water , Mineral Oil , Glycerine , Petrolatum , Cetearyl Alcohol , Dicetyl Phosphate , Ceteth-10 Phosphate , Vitis Vinifera Seed Oil Grape , Cetearyl Alcohol , Ceteareth-20 , Dimethicone , Biotin , Propylene Glycol , Diazolidinyl Urea , Methylparaben , Propylparaben , DMDM Hydantoin , Fragrance , Stearyl Alcohol , Fragrance , Panthenol , Tetrasodium EDTA
After all that waiting I can’t even use this crap in my hair! It contains everything that African American women should avoid. Like so many other products, this product is nothing more than another imitation of all the other so-called African American products on the market for our hair type. Another product to keep our hair in bondage. Based on this alone, I don’t expect anything special when it comes to their shampoo and conditioner.
Mineral Oil – A cheap oil that clogs pores and prevents absorption of moisture resulting in dry hair and stunted hair growth.
Petroleum – Please see above
Dimethicone – A silicone that causes buildup after frequent use resulting in the hair having to be clarified often.
It’s funny how they advertise how great their product is by emphasizing the containing Grapeseed oil and Biotin, but from the look of the ingredients other than these two ingredients, including the glycerine, pathenol, and water, everything else included in this formulation are chemicals. It’s really nothing good about this hair moisturizer and I do not recommend it for use.

1[ Reply to this comment ]Hi Samara,
Johnathan here, I’m the creator and founder SimplyHEALTHY Hair. I’m super-glad you got our sample, I made sure to personally mail out the samples, because I really wanted to give everyone the chance to try out our product.
Humbly saying, I think you’re really missing out on a great product. I know you have done a lot of research on ingredients, but really SimplyHEALTHY is different. Not all mineral oils are the same. I was very concerned with using mineral oil in my products, because of the potential problems, but after a lot of development and research we made our product different. We use mineral oil-10 vs. -50 which has a much light viscosity and does not clog the pores. Also we have done a lot of product evaluations and formulating to ensure SHH Hydrating Shine Creme absorbs quickly, while giving really great hydration and shine to dry hair. People who try the product really love it.
If you haven’t thrown the sample away, I would really encourage you to open the packet and experience the product for yourself before you totally count us out. I think you will be very surprised and pleased. Just my humble appeal for a second chance. I definitely don’t want to perpetuate the bondage to bad products. I really just want the best for all people, especially people wanting a quality, affordable and results-oriented line of products. Let me know if I can send you another sample, I would love to hear what you think after feeling it for yourself.
All the best+blessings -JCC
