Shielo Product Review: Hydrate

This is a video review of the Shielo Hydrate product line. The products were pretty decent products and I can safely say that I had no complaints when I tried them. I am reviewing the products from the Hydrate line including the shampoo and conditioner. I am also reviewing the Shielo Leave-In Protectant Antioxidant spray which I recommend for a daily hair mist if you choose to use this product.

Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Chamomile & Argan Oil Baby Head-to-Toe Wash & Shampoo w/Frankincense & Myrrh

Boy! Is that a mouthful, but that is the complete name of this product: Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Chamomile & Argan Oil Baby Head-to-Toe Wash & Shampoo w/Frankincense & Myrrh. I discovered this product in Target when I was browsing through the baby section for more items to spoil my 5 month old with (SMH) when I came across this lovely baby wash. I did not know Shea Moisture produced baby products, but after reading the ingredients I was eager to give it a try. Currently I’ve been using the Ambrosia Lavish Curl Quenching Shampoo in his hair, but although the Ambrosia-Hair products are very gentle they are not formulated for use on infants. Well, after giving this sulfate free shampoo/wash a try I absolutely love it! It has a nice sweet smell to it and it leaves my sons hair clean, moisturized, and his skin was baby soft as well. I love, love, love this product!

They also make a lotion for your little one as well, but since this website is strictly based on hair, I will only include my review of the shampoo. I am sure the lotion is just as good. If you are looking for a gentle curl cleanser for you little ones hair, give this one a try! It’s nothing like the Johnsons & Johnsons Tear free “hair drying” shampoo, it’s the complete opposite! Very moisturizing, completely natural, sulfate free, and gentle for your curly baby.

Ingredients: Deionized water, decyl glucoside (sugar beets), aloe vera juice, (coconut oil), organic raw shea butter, organic coconut oil, argan nut oil, vitamin E, guar, lonicera caprifolium (honeysuckle) flower (and) lonicera japonica (Japanese honeysuckle) flower extract, calendula extract, lavender oil, rose extract, chamomile extract, frankincense oil, myrrh extract (Please note I substituted most of the “scientific” names for the ingredients with the more common names for them.)

Beautiful Curls Review

Today I am reviewing a new natural hair product line called Beautiful Curls by Alaffia. I saw this line in Wholefoods and decided to give it a try. From what I read on the Beautiful Curls website (www.beautifulcurls.net), there are 3 different types of product categories in the line. There is a Kinky-Curly line, Straight-Wavy line, and Babies line. I purchased the Kinky-Curly line because my hair is just that, Kinky-Curly.

The products that I purchased was the Beautiful Curls Curl Activating Shampoo,Curl Activating Leave-in Conditioner, Curl Reviving Hair Tonic(for all hair types), and the Curl Enchancing Cream. After trying the product line I decided to return the shampoo, conditioner and the hair tonic because the pH of those products were too alkaline and my hair was also dried out. Note: Even though I like the shampoo, after testing the pH I decided to return it because the pH was a 7.0-7.5!

Botanical Spirits SugarCane Herbal Clarifying Shampoo Review

I’m not a big fan of shampoo, but I tried the SugarCane Herbal Clarifying Shampoo by Botanical Spirits and I have to admit, I love it. The Sugar Cane Herbal Clarifying Shampoo left my hair feeling clean, but not stripped like most clarifying shampoo’s do. It also doesn’t suds up as much like most shampoos that are loaded with detergents. It has a fresh, clean, natural scent to it and it’s simply amazing.

Ingredients: Botanical Spirits Herbal Complex SE Water Extract, Sugar Cane Extract, Cocopolyglucoside Taurate, Cocomidoproply Betaine, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Glycerin, Lauryl Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Sodium Lauryl Glucose Carboxylate, Hemp seed oil, Grapeseed oil. Extract of Lemongrass and Lavendar, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Rosemary Leaf Extract, Sweet Orange Essential Oil, Fragrance.

If you are looking for a gentle clarifying shampoo, this is a winner. You can purchase it from http://www.botanicalspirits.com for $12.50 (8 oz bottle). Again, this is yet another wonderful clarifying shampoo that not only contains the ingredients needed to remove buildup from the hair, but it is gentle and moisturizing as well.

50:50 Balanced Hydrating-Clarifying Shampoo – Giovanni

I love using the Fantasia IC Olive Styling Gel to finger style my hair from time to time during these cold months as my protective style, but I do understand that the Fanstasia gel does contain dimethicone, a type of silicone. The dimethicone contained in the gel that I used is a chemical modified one(dimethicone copoyol) that makes it water soluble so it can be washed out with a conditioner wash as well as a shampoo that contains Cocamidopropl Betaine(removes all types of cones). Thankfully this type of silicone doesn’t require the use of sulfates to remove from the hair, which I personally do not like using in my hair.

So with that said, I needed a shampoo that contained Cocamidopropl Betaine, but is also sulfate free. This is when I stumbled upon the Giovanni 50:50 Balanced Hydrating-Clarifying Shampoo. When I think of clarifying shampoo’s I think of them being harsh, drying, and full of sulfates, but not Giovanni’s. I shampooed my hair with this shampoo and my hair felt clean, but it felt equally moisturized as well.

I believe you can wash your hair with this shampoo every time you cleanse your hair, but because I have a drier hair type I tend to limit shampooing and/or clarifying my hair to once per month, while co-washing every 3-7 days. I plan on only using this shampoo only when I am using products containing ingredients that can cause build up (cones), and when I am using my all natural products (shea butter, Kinky-Curly Custard, etc.) I plan on using plan baking soda and water or apple cider vinegar to clarify my hair.

Overall, the Giovanni 50:50 Balance Hydrating-Clarifying Shampoo is a winner in my book. It contains zero sulfates, it does not strip the hair, but moisturizes it, and it contains the ingredients needed to remove buildup (Cocamidopropl Betaine).
